How it works

Useful privacy, without privacy theater.

The analyzer reads the real file in your browser and reports only what is actually present. Forensic views are investigative aids, not verdicts.

  1. InspectRead supported metadata locally.
  2. Report clearlyShow what was actually found—nothing inferred.

What it checks

  • Location: EXIF GPS records and XMP coordinates, shown as decimal degrees
  • Device identifiers: camera serial numbers, owner names, phone models
  • Software and editing history: CreatorTool, Software and IPTC records
  • AI generation traces: prompts, seeds, samplers and generator names
  • The embedded thumbnail, extracted so you can see the preview copy you are sharing
  • Error level analysis and LSB indicators, labelled as signals rather than proof

Questions, answered

What this tool does and does not do.

Is this different from the metadata viewer?

Yes. The viewer lists what is inside the file. The analyzer adds a privacy summary, the extracted thumbnail, forensic indicators such as error level analysis, and a one-click handoff to the metadata cleaner when it finds something you would rather not share.

Does ELA prove a photo was edited?

No. Error level analysis highlights regions that compress differently after a re-save. Editing is one cause; heavy compression, rescaling and filters are others. Treat it as a place to look, never as proof.

Can it detect AI-generated images?

Only from evidence in the file. It reports prompts, generator names and Content Credentials when they are present. An image with no metadata can still be AI-generated, and absence of findings proves nothing.

What happens to my photo?

Image files and extracted metadata stay on your device during normal tool use. Ordinary website requests still reach hosting. The analysis runs in a Web Worker in your browser, and the optional text report is generated locally as a download.
