Image Diff
Compare two images with slider, overlay, difference and heatmap views, plus real pixel metrics.
Image A
JPEG, PNG or WebP · Up to 25 MB
Image B
JPEG, PNG or WebP · Up to 25 MB
How it works
Useful privacy, without privacy theater.
Metrics are computed from the actual pixels: differing pixel counts, mean error, RMSE and PSNR. Identical images produce an exact zero.
- InspectRead supported metadata locally.
- Report clearlyShow what was actually found—nothing inferred.
What it checks
- Side by side, draggable slider, opacity overlay and blink comparison
- Absolute difference and threshold heatmap visualizations
- Differing pixel count and percentage at your threshold
- Mean absolute error, RMSE and PSNR
- Size mismatches are handled explicitly: fit the canvas or rescale B, never silently
Questions, answered
What this tool does and does not do.
What do the metrics mean?
Different pixels counts how many pixels differ by more than your threshold on any channel. Mean error and RMSE summarize how far apart the images are; PSNR expresses the error in decibels and is infinite for identical images.
My images are different sizes. What happens?
You choose: refuse to compare, pad both onto a larger canvas, or rescale the second image to the first's size. Whatever you pick is stated next to the result.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Both files stay in your browser; the comparison runs in a Web Worker.
What is a good PSNR?
It depends entirely on context. Compression comparisons often read 30-50 dB; there is no universal pass mark, which is why the raw counts are shown alongside.
