How it works
Useful privacy, without privacy theater.
EXIF often contains camera settings, timestamps, device details and GPS coordinates. MetaPurify removes supported records and verifies the result.
- InspectRead supported metadata locally.
- Clean and verifyReparse the output and compare image payloads.
What it removes
- Camera maker, model, lens and serial numbers
- Capture dates, exposure settings and GPS coordinates
- The embedded preview thumbnail, which is a small copy of the original picture
- Photo rotation is kept by default so the image stays upright
Questions, answered
What this tool does and does not do.
What is still in the file after EXIF is removed?
The encoded picture, plus the ICC color profile and the orientation value, which are preserved by default so the image still displays correctly. XMP packets, IPTC fields and PNG text records are separate structures and are not part of EXIF.
Does it remove the embedded thumbnail?
Yes. EXIF can carry a small preview copy of the original picture, and that preview is removed along with the rest of the EXIF block.
Will the photo look different afterwards?
No. The compressed image data is copied through unchanged, and colour management and rotation are kept, so the picture renders exactly as before.
I want everything gone, not just EXIF.
Use the metadata cleaner instead. The EXIF remover is deliberately narrow; the cleaner also clears XMP, IPTC, comments and PNG text records.
